Using hierarchy provides a guide to express the importance of text elements visually and logically. Text hierarchy aids in making the layout clear and gives visual organization. Hierarchy helps the viewer scan text, know where to enter and exit, and how to pick and choose among the information presented.
Each level in a hierarchy is signaled by these cues, which can be used to achieve clear hierarchy.
-Placement on the page
-Weight or type style
-Type size or scale
-Graphic elements
Setting the text of greatest importance in the largest, bold, or italicized typeface emphasizes its' importance. The position of the text in relation to the other text elements also creates a hierarchy and leads the eye into the text and around the layout according to the visual clues used. Infinite variations are possible.
Coding- Text in the same color, weight, style etc. make those words seem related and important in the layout.
