journal 7: found typography

FOUND TYPOGRAPHY
Since I didn't go anywhere exciting or interesting over spring break, I decided to take some pictures of typography in a few different towns close to where I am from. The first group of photos I took was at the historic downtown of Hays,KS. On my way home from Hays, I stopped in a really small town called Ellis, I found a few neat signs, and some painted murals with type that I thought were interesting. Lastly, heading back to Lawrence yesterday, I stopped in Russell,KS for gas,and decided to check out their downtown. I ended up finding a few nice examples of type there as well. In between these photos, there are some words spelled out with twigs and nature objects — my little sister and myself spelled out garden one day (which I was considering using for my Campus Garden Project posters at the time). The type I was most inspired by, was the hand painted ENTRANCE and parking type on the brick wall that I found in Ellis,KS. It would have been neat to visit several small towns like Ellis and see the type that is left on the older buildings.
